SSO Cancer Hospital and Rotary Club Launch Mega Cervical Cancer Screening Drive across Mumbai

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 10: In a major step towards women’s health and cancer prevention, the Rotary Club of Mumbai District 3141, in collaboration with SSO Cancer Hospital, an organ-specific cancer hospital, is conducting a mega cervical cancer screening initiative across 16 locations in Mumbai, covering over 1,100 beneficiaries in a single day.

The camps were held across key city areas, including Santacruz, Goregaon, Mahim, Mulund, Mankhurd, Wadala, Goregaon (E), Vikhroli, Colaba, Walkeshwar, Worli, Charni Road, Andheri (W), and Dahisar (W), making this one of the largest coordinated cervical screening drives in the city.

The initiative aims to spread awareness about the importance of early detection of cervical cancer, which remains one of the most preventable yet life-threatening cancers among Indian women. Each camp will offer free Pap smears and screening consultations, alongside educational talks on women’s health and preventive care. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sanket Mehta, Founder & Surgical OncologistSSO Cancer Hospital, said, “At SSO Cancer Hospital, we see hundreds of women each year who are diagnosed with cervical cancer at a stage when treatment becomes complex and outcomes are poorer. Yet, the heart-breaking truth is that over 80% of these cases are preventable through early screening. This initiative with Rotary is not just about conducting camps — it’s about reaching women where they are, educating them about prevention, and enabling timely diagnosis. Our goal is to ensure that every woman, regardless of background, has access to life-saving screening and care.

Dr Manish MotwaniDistrict Governor, Rotary Club District 3141, added, “Every 8 minutes, a woman in India loses her life to cervical cancer — a disease that is both preventable and curable if detected early. Through this collaboration with SSO Cancer Hospital, Rotary is taking a proactive step to change that reality. By screening over 1,100 women across 16 locations in a single day, we aim to bring awareness, access, and action to the forefront. This partnership represents the true spirit of Rotary, using collective strength and compassion to make a measurable difference in community health.”

This large-scale initiative reflects the shared commitment of Rotary Club and SSO Cancer Hospital to create a healthier, more informed community, one where no woman is left behind in the fight against cervical cancer. This program aims to set a new benchmark for community-driven preventive healthcare in Mumbai, proving that early detection is not only possible but also powerful.
